Part of grouphomesafe, ERA already offers a range of door and window products that meet the new Technical Specification 007 (TS 007) produced by the Door & Hardware Federation and the Glass and Glazing Federation.
Introduced specifically to address the
vulnerabilities of lock cylinders, the standard has been developed with
support from leading industry associations together with the police
security initiative, Secured by Design and The British Standards
Institute (BSI). The standard has been designed to offer protection
against cylinder snapping, bumping and other methods of access, which
can now been seen through the internet making them readily available to
burglars. Aimed specifically at the retro-fit market, it is designed to
offer comparable levels of cylinder security to those found in door
assemblies rated to PAS 24.
“New standard will bring clarity”
Ben Penson, of grouphomesafe says: “The
availability of this new standard will bring clarity for those looking
to retro-fit security hardware. For new doors, it is well-established
that best practice is to install doors that are pre-fitted with security
locking systems that comply with PAS 24. Now, with TS 007, consumers
with existing doors they wish to upgrade, have a way of identifying
which locking systems offer the latest security standards to protect
against cylinder attack. As a manufacturer already offering products
that meet this standard, we plan to play our part in the important task
of communicating the availability and importance of this new standard to
the general public.”
Characterised by a star rating that range from
one to three, the new standard offers a degree of flexibility for
achieving the optimum three star solution. For example, a three star
system can be achieved with a combination of a one star rated cylinder
and two star rated security door handle, or with a three star cylinder
alone.
Newly launched by ERA to meet TS 007 is the
Lockguard handle. Lockguard is a security handle that meets the two
star TS 007 rating. Suitable for most multi-point locks, it has been
designed as a solution for upgrading security on existing doors.
Lockguard features a ‘Lift and Lock’ mechanism unique to ERA that makes
it easier to check visually that the door is locked. Lifting the
internal handle throws the multi-locking points in a single movement and
the handle then stays in the raised position to indicate that the door
is locked. It has a flexible adjustable keyway to allow for a range of
handle/lock distances and features a unique latching system that ensures
the door is locked.
Also available
and already established within the ERA range is the Vectis Plus.
Designed for new installations, this is a cylinder-free multi-point
locking system designed to avoid the problems of cylinder bumping,
breaking and plug extraction. Based on a patented five-lever operation,
the Vectis gearbox is available for a wide range of door lock
specifications.
Also coming to the market soon is a new
product from ERA which is suitable for both new and retro-fit
installations. Successfully tested to the latest PAS 24 standard, the
new ERA High Security Handle shields the cylinder behind the backplate
keyhole, giving access only to the key slot. Used with Kitemarked
cylinder, the door lock is protected against all forms of cylinder
attack. The High Security Handle meets the TS 007 two star rating.
Ben
says: “In line with our philosophy of providing innovative and
advanced home security systems, we have been an active participant in
the development of this standard. Our view is that it provides the
baseline which will help guide our future product development as well as
an important security reference for the buying public.”
